From Zero to $3.4 MILLION

When Alex* approached me (Lennon) about taking his personal injury case, he was worried, anxious and frustrated.
Alex was a construction worker who put in long hours each week on job sites throughout New York City, working hard to provide for his child and elderly father back home.
One day while working at a construction site, a wall collapsed on Alex. This construction accident resulted in serious injuries to his back requiring surgery, and ultimately leaving Alex, the family breadwinner, unable to work.
Looking for help when his accident first happened, Alex initially turned to a big personal injury law firm with lots of attorneys. That firm had Alex’s case for OVER 6 YEARS with no settlement in sight.
Understandably frustrated, Alex started looking for a new construction accident lawyer. Like over 80% of my personal injury cases, Alex was referred to me by someone he knew.
After taking the time to meet with him in his home, hear his story, and assess the merits of the case, I agreed to help Alex get justice for his construction accident injuries.
And in just 8 MONTHS, Alex went from $0 to a $3.4 MILLION settlement at trial.
Now Monique, you can’t just wish a case into a multi-7-figure settlement. Each case has its own unique factors that impact its resolution amount, and past results for one client don’t guarantee future results for another.
But here are a few things I did to make that settlement happen for my client:
Thoughtfulness: As sometimes happens, Alex’s case had some weaknesses as it related to his damages. As a former defense attorney, I have decades of experience in spotting these weaknesses, devising a strategy to minimize them and executing that strategy to neutralize them - all before these weaknesses create a problem for my client. In this case, part of that strategy was investing in getting the necessary experts to support the amount of money damages we were asking for.
Thoroughness: To resolve some factual issues with the case, I went the extra mile to locate witnesses and hear what they had to say about Alex’s construction accident so I could be well-prepared for any impact their testimony might have on his case. I also found additional types of damages that Alex’s previous law firm hadn’t bothered to explore, even though Alex testified about these at his deposition.
Toughness: After stalling for months, the insurance company initially offered Alex a fraction of what his case was worth. While the decision to settle is always the client’s, I advised Alex to refuse the lowball offers and hold out for the settlement amount I knew I could get on his behalf. And we got it!
While the results of every personal injury case will vary based on things like the injuries sustained, amount of lost wages, the client’s consistency in medical treatment, proof of liability, insurance coverages, etc., here’s what will never vary: the thoughtfulness, thoroughness and toughness I bring to each and every one of my client’s cases.
Thank God Alex had a friend who referred him to me. Otherwise, he might still be waiting for that big personal injury firm to resolve his construction accident case.
But now, thanks to our settlement, Alex is able to focus on putting his life back together without worrying about how he’s going to provide for his family.
Friends don’t let friends hire random personal injury attorneys.
